A Duluth man was indicted in federal court in Minneapolis this week on one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Ronald Paris Riles, 36, is accused of possessing a 9-millimeter pistol and a .357-caliber revolver on Feb. 6.

Because he is a felon, Riles is prohibited under federal law from possessing a firearm at any time. He was previously convicted in Illinois for first-degree murder in 1993 and for manufacturing and delivering cannabis in 2007.

Riles, also known as “P,” was one of 30 people arrested in a Twin Ports drug bust earlier this year. The Duluth police Tactical Response Team arrested Riles on a search warrant executed in the 100 block of West Fifth Street on Feb. 6.

Investigators said they believe Riles flushed crack cocaine down the toilet, but heroin was recovered at the residence as well as the two handguns, one of which was loaded. The guns were concealed above ceiling tiles, authorities said.

If convicted of the federal charge, Riles faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison.
