A 42-year-old McGregor man has been charged with second degree assault with a knife in connection with an incident about 10 p.m. Wednesday near 11th Avenue East and East Ninth Street in Duluth.

Clifford Monroe Skinaway was charged Friday morning in State District Court in Duluth.

According to the criminal complaint, several Duluth police squads converged on the area after a report of a stabbing. One man had already been taken to St, Luke’s hospital with stab wounds.

Police interviewed the victim and others who named Skinaway as the suspect. They said five people were riding around in a van when an argument broke out over a relationship between two people in the van. They said Skinaway stabbed the victim in the stomach. Police said all of the people involved appeared very intoxicated.

Skinaway was arrested shortly after on the Eighth Street bridge over Chester Creek in possession of a bloody knife. The complaint says Skinaway admitted to stabbing the victim.
